How to Merge PDF Files Without Creating a Mess
Combining PDF files sounds simple, and most of the time it is. The part that causes trouble is not the merge itself; it is the page order. A report, appendix and cover sheet can all be perfectly fine on their own and still make no sense when combined in the wrong sequence.
Before merging, quickly rename the source files or write down the order you want. This is especially useful when several documents have similar names. Open the finished PDF and scan the first few pages, the section breaks and the last page. It is much easier to catch a misplaced appendix now than after the file has already been sent.
A simple way to handle it
Keep the original PDFs untouched. Merging creates a new document, so you can always go back if the order needs to change. For recurring work, keeping a simple naming system such as 01-cover, 02-report and 03-appendix makes the process much faster.
Check the final file
Once the order looks right, download the combined document and give it a clear filename. That small habit saves time later when the file is sitting in a downloads folder with ten other PDFs.
